You can only take one dvd which must be of any British comedy. Which is it?

When you say ONE DVD... are box-sets allowed? Wink

In that case, mine will be Monty Python's Flying Circus, but I might try to smuggle Fawlty Towers in as well, maybe they won't have too strict custom checks, on a remote desert island... Grin

P.S. Cunning as I am, while trying to smuggle it, I would in fact replace the third disc in the Fawlty Towers set, the docs and interviews, with a copy of A Fish Called Wanda... but at that point I might just invite John Cleese to join me Grin

Well, hmmm. OK, I'll allow box sets just this once  Grin

Mine would be a box set of Dad's Army too.

Yes, John Cleese is great isn't he? So talented. (I really like Michael Palin too) Does John Cleese still do any acting?

Unfortunately, Molly, John Cleese has been semi-retired for a while, just a few cameo roles in the odd movie, some chat-show appearances and a bit of hosting or compering one-off shows, don't think it would be really offensive if I quoted one of Pythons' own lines, where Eric Idle says "Oh, you're no fun anymore!" Wink

Still, he's done his "tour of duty", hasn't he? And I still regard him as one of the funniest men that ever lived Smiley

P.S. I envy your decisiveness, Phil... if it was ONE and only ONE disc allowed, I'd probably just drown trying to choose between series 2 and 3 of Pythons... Cheesy

Well if we're going to be precise Gomez then I can't have my choice, as series 5 is split onto 2 discs!!!  So I'd just take Disc 1 as it has my all time favourite episode on it.

For second choice I would be far more indescisive, then it would be choosing one from thousands!!!!

You're right there, Phil, it's very much the same with Pythons, 2 discs per series... but that wouldn't be a big problem, I wouldn't reach the stage of choosing discs, as I was saying I'd have already drowned trying to pick the series Grin

I'm just lousy at this game, I guess... the logical side of my mind keeps taking over and suggesting it would be a lot more reasonable to carry with you on a desert island a nice laptop with a huge hard-disk filled to the brim with AVI, MP3 and eBook files, and then actually enjoy very much a prolonged stay on said island, which we obviously assume being of the tropical persuasion... Cheesy

Indeed, you can take logic too far... most logically, we would rather choose not to get marooned at all, I guess, if we could... Wink

But I DO accept Molly's challenge, as I said I find the idea of a spell as a technologically-equipped castaway on a tropical island quite pleasant (we ARE supposed to be rescued, at some point, aren't we? Smiley), and never mind I keep trying to cheat on the amount of video allowed, that's only human... Grin

Blackadder Goes Forth. Or Blackadder the Third? No, Forth, the final episode is unforgettable. But, wait a minute, Ink and Inkapability is a masterpiece, too... Forth! Third! No, Forth!

Which episode is that then?

"Steptoe and Son - And Son!" because it sums up the entire series in one episode - the first twenty minutes are the funniest they ever made, but the last six minutes are pure drama, with a sad ending, with Galton and Simpson breaking the very rules of sitcom that they invented.

Harold  (on seeing the pregnant Daphne):  "I don't think I've had the pleasure!"
Albert:  "Well somebody has!"

As for Blackadder, Zeke, my deliberation would be between series 2 and 3, though 4 is a classic too!!

Oh, alright, I'll stop blithering and try to play straight, just allow me a minute to wear an inflatable life-jacket first, to give me some time... Wink

Trying to cover all possible variations of the rules, one series, one disc, one episode, I feel forced, much as it hurts, to drop the Pythons altogether.

You can't really pick series and episodes from sketch-shows, they are thought from the start with having "stronger" and "weaker" spots in each episode, a compilation would be in order, and a few are in fact available of Pythons' stuff, but you'd rather make your own... and drown 3 times in the process Cheesy

No, I'll have to go for second best, and I'm lucky there, choosing between series 1 and 2 of Fawlty Towers is a no-brainer, although we're talking better than best, there Wink, but series 2 it obviously is, AND it fits in a single disc, too...

Episode, now... er... oh dear... here we go again... Wink

There's "Communication Problem" (the deaf lady), and "The Kipper and the Corpse", and... no, no... wait... shush... oo'er, missus... let poor Francis think about it... Wink

No, I'll stick to those two, but I need ONE... moan... groan...

No, it's no use, I can't make it all the way through, my life-jacket is punctured and I'm going down for the third time... HELP! Grin

P.S. Everyone's commenting on Blackadder... which is only reasonable, it's also my second-favourite sitcom, although the more I watch "One Foot in the Grave" the more it looks as a serious contender for the place... anyway, I'd have no problem in choosing series 2 there, not because I find it exceptionally better than either 3 or 4 on the whole, but because I simply adore Miranda Richardson in there, she's absolutely sparkling, and Stephen Fry's Lord Melchett contains the seeds of his Jeeves, possibly his best acting performance to date (although Kingdom is no slouch, either).

Nobody ever seems to pick 'The Black Adder' do they?  Series 1 was so different from the rest, I must admit it's the one I watch the least of all.

"One Foot..." is brilliant.  It has a unique voice.  I recently heard David Renwick venting a frustration over it, saying that people say it is about retirement and it is not.  It is about Unemployment and Victor is not retired, but unemployed.  Renwick seemed rather annoyed about that lol

Mrs. Warbouys has some of the best lines ever!!

Mrs Warbouys:  "I heard you were in need of a new Jigsaw..."  (Hands Victor a black and decker jig saw)...

Classic!
