Do you remember characters in your favourite shows directly quoting or making references to other shows?

Here's a couple off the top of my head, don't remember the episode details, though:

In "One Foot in the Grave", during a conversation on the blower, Victor Meldrew (Richard Wilson) says something like... "Do you think my name is Frank Spencer?" (the goofy protagonist of "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em") Cheesy

And then, of course, there's Richard Wilson's unfortunate encounter with Father Ted... Cheesy

In "Will and Grace" (which I generally hate, but there's a few episodes I just HAD to have  Wink) John Cleese has a hispanic maid serving him at some point, and absentmindedly says to her... "Thank you, Manuel!" (self-quoting his own "Fawlty Towers", of course) Grin

Anyone remembers any more?

wow, this will take some thinking about. The only example that comes to mind is the moment in the A-team when a Cylon walks past The Face on a film set and he does a double take.

found some more (thanks to wikipedia)

Quote
Other productions have included characters resembling members of the Dad’s Army platoon for comic effect. The 1987 movie Hope and Glory includes a scene in which members of the Home Guard, looking like characters from Dad’s Army, bring an escaped barrage balloon under control. Similarly, characters called Mainwaring (Alec Linstead), Wilson (Terence Hardiman) and a clerk similar to Pike appear in a scene set in a 1940s bank in an episode of the 1990s time travel sitcom Goodnight Sweetheart. The central character, Gary Sparrow (played by Nicholas Lyndhurst), who is from the 1990s, is astounded to learn that the three are all members of the local Home Guard platoon, and sings some lines of “Who do you think you are kidding Mr Hitler?” at them. Some of the characters have also appeared in the comic book Jack Staff in flashbacks to the hero’s activities during the war.

Several of Ben Elton’s productions have featured characters inspired by Dad’s Army. In the Blackadder Goes Forth episode “Corporal Punishment,” two minor characters named Corporal Jones and Private Frazer are introduced. Also in this series, the title and credit music are performed by an army marching band (The Band of the 3rd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment), as in Dad’s Army. Many of the characters in the Ben Elton sitcom The Thin Blue Line can be compared with those of Dad’s Army. Fowler’s relationship with Grim is very similar to that of Captain Mainwaring to Warden Hodges, in that they are both on the same side yet enemies. Also, Constable Goody is rather like Private Pike in being a “stupid boy” that irritates Fowler. Similar comparisons can be drawn from many of the minor characters. In the episode Rag Week, Fowler is briefly seen walking out of a shop called “Mainwaring’s.”

I know the feeling! Grin
But you did come up with something interesting indeed!

I know Blackadder and The Thin Blue Line pretty well, what I know little about is Dad's Army, never got into it, only watched a coupla episodes and the movie, but it just didn't work for me.

And I know absolutely nothing about Goodnight Sweetheart, except that it's reported as being pretty nice, guess it's just about time to check it out, thanks for the excuse! Cheesy

LOL, don't take that as a recommendation for Goodnight Sweetheart, IMO it started off with an exciting outline for a very different sitcom whith its time-travelling storyline but very quickly decended into a very cosy and rather boring prime-time predicability.

Frasier did a cross over with Cheers, well i know that frasier is a spin off but well ... Cheesy

Game On had an interesting moment when Neil Stuke took over as the character of Matthew. At the end of the fiest episode with Neil acting in it, they all watch an episode of Roseanne and after Neils character complains about a different actress playing Becky in Roseanne, Martin and Mandy turn and give him a "look"

No, that won't do, I'm afraid... no spinoffs, or we'd start with "Man About the House" and end next year Cheesy, no crossovers and no parodies, although the latter breaks my heart, I just seen a lovely one, accidentaly on sat TV, the "Goodness Gracious Me" sketch "Fawlty Turrets", beautifully done, with characters and scenery, only it's in Rajasthan rather than Cornwall...
