I thought of this after hearing something like it on the radio and thought i'd wheel it out after Gomez's great thread had finished but this time it's a never ending game with no points and just for fun.

Its a very simple game, all you have to do is to post a link from one sitcom to another, The first sitcom must be the last one from the post above yours, so for example, if the post you are replying to finishes with Only Fools And Horses then you could reply with something like The Two Of Us, the link being Nicholas Lyndhurst as he appeared in both series. The link can be as obvious or obsure (more fun!) as you like but you must explain how the two sitcoms link together. Sitcoms can be repeated but try not to use the same link.
(Of cause, hopefully this will run for a long time so don't let it be a reason for not starting your own quiz thread! Smiley

Righty ho, lets start with Red Dwarf ...

Now give us another sitcom and its link to Red Dwarf.

Well, a bit too obvious perhaps, but since I have it handy... Wink

Chris Barrie is my link, the unforgettable obnoxious hologram Rimmer in Red Dwarf, here doing a guest appearance in Filthy, Rich and Catflap

Filthy, Rich & Catflap - Episode Two 1/4

Over and out, next "Comedy Connection" to you... and thank you for giving me the clap... Grin

Okay Smiley David Baddiel had a very early bit-part in Filthy, Rich and Catflap, and also starred in a short-lived sitcom of his own, Baddiel's Syndrome

So my link is David Baddiel and the next 'com on the list is Baddiel's Syndrome, An obscure sitcom i know but it did have a couple of rather big names appearing in it Wink

Oh, goody, that surely gives much more scope...

My very first thought had been indeed to follow the S/F theme out of Red Dwarf into the Hitchhiker's Guide, and from there, via Douglas Adams, it could have led to Monty Python, and from there to infinity split six ways... Cheesy

Or I could have followed Chris Barrie to something more substantial for him, like Brittas Empire, but that looked a bit of a dead-end, haven't seen much of it myself.

Now, I don't want to look like being selfish by answering too often here, but you'll understand, I just spent nearly a month being a quizmaster and dying for playing myself... Cheesy

I have a nicely "acrobatic" one here, but I'm not sure if "multiple" connections are allowed within the same reply... well, let's see Smiley

I'll still follow actors out of Baddiel's Syndrome, but not the more obvious Stephen Fry, a regular feature, but the guest David Walliams.

From there, if I'm allowed, I'd go to his starring role in "Rather You Than Me", a biopic movie on Frankie Howerd, and you'd never guess where I'd go with Frankie... The Ladykillers!

I bet you NEVER noticed Frankie was in there... I didn't, in fact I'm going to watch the movie tonight (after the football) just for the sake of spotting him (well, and having quite a bit of fun in the process... one of the movies I'll never tire to watch, I believe Grin

If the above is too far-fetched, plan-B would be sticking to Walliams and going for the more obvious Little Britain... but I like the Ladykillers much better, really... Smiley

P.S. Funny... a couple of posts seem to have entirely disappeared... funny... (been watching Pete & Dud lately Cheesy)

That's my intention, yes, unless my way of getting there was too convoluted...

Don't tell me I actually dreamed of having an exchange with you, earlier on this very thread, about non-sitcom items being allowed in the game... that has just vanished, for me at least...

Oh, yes. You are right! I said that the link can be to films, sketch-shows, ect.. and that the link didnt have to be actors but just about anything that linked the two.

Kennith Conner had a small role in The Ladykillers, he may be best known for being in the Carry On movies but he, of cause also appeared in 'Allo, 'Allo!

So your next starting point is now 'Allo, 'Allo! Smiley

Good moaning... Grin

Msr. Alphonse: A true Frenchman would never tell a man's wife of her husband's infidelities
René (relieved): Oh, good...
Msr. Alphonse: But I'm Belgian on my mother's side!

Cheesy

Let's link with a theme, this time... the War (although we shouldn't mention it Cheesy)

While the resistance fought bravely with long-distance ducks, big boobies and exploding Christmas puddings in nazi-occupied France, on the other side of the channel a group of (more or less) brave men were organising home defense...

Dad's Army Christmas Turkey Semolina pudding

We were bound to pass through Dad's Army sooner or later... I thought that would cheer you up... Grin

Okay... my link is probably an obvious one, to Steptoe and Son but NOT because of John  Laurie's guest appearance but because David Croft directed the episode "Divided We Stand"

Which way out of the Steptoes... not theme, can't really think of many father and son situations, I'll take the easy way with actors again, namely Wilfrid Brambell and what's possibly his most famous guest-role.

I swear ALL the people I've ever talked about it with remember Paul's grandpa in "A Hard Day's Night" as the funniest bit, and almost everyone would add "he was so clean, wasn't he?" Cheesy

So that's my next link, another movie, but with many connections on offer... Smiley

P.S. I just realised the whole movie is available on YouTube, alas, dubbed in either German or Spanish only, looks like Smiley

Okay... I'm going to make an obscure link... and link to... Porridge because of Ronnie Barker...

Why??

Well.  A Hard Day Night was written by Alun Owen who also wrote The Ronnie Barker Playhouse..

Obscure, but fun...

Oblique, indeed, never seen the "Playhouse" myself, I'd have gone with Richard Lester there, me, or some Beatle, but I'm not going to miss the chance to remember two of my all-time favourites, both sadly and too early departed...

My link from Porridge is Richard Beckinsale, and with him I'll link to Leonard Rossiter and Rising Damp

Richard Beckinsale (1947-1979)-1

Ah, and... that's 'Orrible 'Ives in the picture with Big Ron, innit? Grin

Yes it was a bit oblique, but the same Alun Owen featured as an actor with Harry H Corbett in  'In the wake of a stranger'.  So I know a little about him.  'Hard days night' is one of the Brambell performances I have seen the least as I can't stand The Beatles.  Did you know Wilfrid recorded a tribute to the Beatles called 'Time Marches On' as the B-Side of his 1971 single 'The Decimal Song'?  Another nice little connection there...

Rising Damp was, of cause made into a film but one of its stars was missing (Richard Beckinsale who had sadly died), another series that was also made into a film with one of its stars missing was Bless This House (Robin Stewart)
