Elton John named part of his full stage name after a sitcom character, but who was it and why? Wink

He has said publically that he was a huge Steptoe fan.  However, I think it would have been more in character of Elton to pick the name of the OTHER Steptoe horse...  Elton Delilah John!! Imagine that, I wouldn't put it past him!

What seems to be a bit daft, perhaps, is choosing an imaginary middlename and then never using it at all... Smiley

However, he couldn't go by his birthname, that's obvious, the risk of confusion with Reggie Dwight, the fellow who performed at the Village Fete in "The Vicar of Dibley" was serious... Wink

Anyway, I'm now quite curious as to WHY on Earth he would name himself after a horse... Cheesy

Maybe he felt he was pulling some metaphorical cart? Or he thought he was hung like a horse? Wink
