ROWAN ATKINSON is refusing to resurrect his iconic character MR. BEAN, because he's convinced he's now too old to portray the bumbling fool. The Johnny English star debuted the character on TV in 1989 and the series continued until 1995, before it was adapted into two big screen versions. But Atkinson is adamant he should say goodbye to Mr. Bean for good because he's convinced he won't be able to do the role justice. Link

Oh, I love Mr. Bean, he's hilarious. Silent comedy of the 1990's!! I have them all on dvd and watch them a lot - I prefered the episodes that weren'#t in sketches, like Mind The Baby mr. Bean which is one complete episode.

I love everything Rowan Atkinson's done on TV, wish I could say the same about his big screen work... hardly his fault, though...
The first Mr. Bean movie was a disaster, imho, through no fault of his, the character was entirely out of character there, if that makes any sense... the second was slightly better, at least he could be "himself" again, out of Hollywood's nasty clutches, but I don't have much sympathy for Johnny English, still have to see the new one, of course, but I haven't seen a decent spy story parody ever since James Coburn's "Our Man Flint" series, and there again, Johnny English's still WAY better than the insufferable Mike Myers' stuff, wossaname, Austin Powers... bleurgh!
Best Rowan Atkinson's performance on the big screen, to me, is the lovely "Keeping Mum", where he plays just about the only straight character in the movie, alongside the great and always wonderful Maggie Smith.

I think Rowan Atkinson is fantastic, but I'm not so keen on Mr Bean. I think it's extremely clever and I don't believe anyone could play the character better, but it gets a bit "samey" for me after a while.
I agree Gomez, it's always a pleasure to see Maggie Smith on the screen.
