GARY: Tank Commander could be set to ride on to the big screen, after Greg McHugh revealed he’s working on an idea for a movie version of the hit BBC Scotland comedy.

The camp soldier’s creator has started working on storylines for the project, which would see the hapless gang of Scottish squaddies embarking on action in foreign lands.

Greg envisages a “Gary Tank Commander Jarhead”, in reference to the bleak Gulf War-inspired movie starring Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal .

Now 31-year-old actor and comedian Greg, who took Gary from a single catchphrase character on the stand-up circuit to massive success on BBC Scotland, is now looking for backers for a feature-length version of the military comedy.

Peter Kay, co-writer and co-star of Channel 4 sitcom Phoenix Nights, has revealed that he has been approached to produce a film adaptation of the series.

Following the continued box office success of The Inbetweeners Movie, Kay has claimed in a radio interview that he has been asked if he is interested in making a big screen version of the working mens' club-set sitcom, but added "The biggest problem is getting everyone together."
