Actor Charlie Sheen has been fired from the hit US sitcom Two and a Half Men by Warner Bros Television.

The studio said it had acted after "careful consideration". The news comes amid a frenzy of US media reports on Sheen's controversial personal life.

No decision has been made on the future of the television series, a spokesman for Warner Bros said on Monday.

Sheen, the highest paid actor on US television, has also appeared in films including Wall Street and Platoon.

Production of Two and a Half Men had been suspended since late January after Sheen, the son of Hollywood actor Martin Sheen, entered rehabilitation for reported drug and alcohol abuse.

The sitcom is the most popular series on the CBS television network.

"Two and a Half Men" is a pretty decent show, and American sitcoms don't often appeal to me (I find them too 'formulaeic').

But to be honest, he deserves to be sacked.  No one is irreplaceable, not even the star of the show, imho if he wants to behave like that, that's his own business, but he has no right to complain about the consequences.

I have heard talk in a british rag that they are thinking of replacing the character.  Not sure if that would work.  The program, like all american shows, is hardly shown on a regular time slot here anyway so it would no doubt be years before we get to see them.  (We are currently 4 years behind on new Simpsons episodes).

I think they should ship Sheen's character off to an unseen rehab facility in the series, then his brother Alan's ex-wife ought to toss out her current husband (played by that tall fellow Ryan Stiles), who should then move into the absent Charlie's beach house with Alan.  Those two would be quite funny together.

Thank you.  Unfortunately nobody listens to me!   Grin

Something that really gets my goat is ungrateful actors.  Given the chance to have fame, adulation, awards and pots of money, some of them still complain.  I'm thinking of Robert Wossname of My Family.  You know, if they're so unhappy, they should just quit.
