I've been thinking about this and since Rising Damp, have ITV made any sitcom at all worth the title of "classic"? I cannot think of any.

That question got me entirely stumped, funnily enough...

I just realized I hardly ever know what's the origin of what I'm watching, an attitude probably deriving from the fact that I hardly ever "watch TV" at all... I never did, most of my life, I actually HATE TV... Grin

I bought my first VCR a few weeks after my first TV set exactly because I couldn't cope with schedules of the few things I actually liked, and what little has changed ever since is DVDs, my PVR/SAT receiver and the vast grey zone of the Internet, of course... Smiley

As the song goes, I never know where it all comes from,
it's like the changing of the seasons and the tides of the sea,
but here's the one that's driving me berserk,
why do only fools and horses work...

LA LA LA LALA...  Grin

Come to think of it, I just remembered I forgot almost all about a very nice ITV series which didn't have enough time to become a classic, being shelved after only one season (7 episodes), in 2003.

Titled "Fortysomething" and featuring Hugh Laurie as the protagonist, with Stephen Fry making cameo appearances, I found it very good, and the only reason I can think of for cancelling it is that Hugh Laurie was whisked away to play Dr. House, which made him a millionaire and us a bit sad... Wink

Well, now they seem to pop out like mushrooms from the woodwork... er... or something to that effect... Wink

While researching Fry & Laurie's career, I finally managed to check something I've always read rave reviews of, but which doesn't seem to have stuck in the wide public's memory, and, honest, what could be more classic in British comedy than P.G. Wodehouse? Smiley

Jeeves and Wooster, in Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie's respective interpretation, is indeed a jewel of a series, they seem born to just play those roles (among many others Smiley)

Not a huge fan of Wodehouse myself, mind you, I must admit I find his writing to be suffering the indignities of time Wink, but that's an even better excuse to watch this, so you won't have to go through all the boring bits in the books... Grin

Oh, and... unlike "A Bit of Fry & Laurie", here's Hugh that steals the scene Wink
