The comedy actor Graham Crowden has died aged 87, He was best known as doc Jock Mccannon in "a very peculiar practice" & he played Tom in the bbc comedy "Waiting for god".He was also in many other shows and films inc. Catweazle & porridge. by strange coincidence i purchased series 2 of waiting for god DVD the day before he passed away............. I think his role in "Up the chastity belt" as sir Coward de Custard was particularly funny

My heart flies with him, as the Indians say...
One of my favourite character actors, his Tom in "Waiting for God" is unforgettable, and he was just about the only reason I watched the rather disappointing "Practice" to the bitter end.
Strange, though, with such a long and distinguished career, I only started noticing him in his later years... perhaps that's because he seldom played principal roles like Tom, but perusing his list of appearances I now realise I've been seeing him ever since I was a kid, the first movie I remember in that list is as old as Lindsey Anderson's "If...", although that was a few years after its original release in 1968, and it was a very minor role, but the list goes on and on, including sitcoms like "Two in Clover" and movies like "The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer", "O Lucky Man!", "Romance with a Double Bass", "Jabberwocky", "Britannia Hospital", "The Missionary", and on and on and on...
He's always been a very good actor, I believe, but sometimes it's ageing itself which gives performers a more "striking" appearance, I don't know...
Anyway, I'm now going to watch or re-watch more stuff with him in it, in his honour, and I'll start with a sitcom which, coincidentially, has recently been brought to my attention, even though he's only in there in a couple of episodes, "Chance in a Million", which tickled my curiosity...

I used to love Waiting For God, but when I revisited it on dvd, it seems to have lost something for me.
I too only really noticed this actor in his later years, as is too often the case. A talented actor with good comic timing.
