Veteran comic actor Leslie Nielsen, star of Airplane! and The Naked Gun, has died at the age of 84. The Canadian-born star died from complications from pneumonia at a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at around 5.30pm local time with his wife Barbaree at his bedside.

Such a shame.  A really talented actor.  I actually remember him most for his straight roles in a couple of episodes of 'Columbo' which I also love.  He was rather talented as a straihgt actor and should have done more.

And don't call him Shirley!  lol

He was also in the cult Sci-Fi classic "The Forbidden planet".

Kept confusing him with Steve Martin for a long time... hadn't realised he was that old.

Police Squad is one of my favourite American 'coms, too, the freeze-frame endings were a little touch of genius!

Strangely enough, it didn't have much success and was shelved after only the one season, that's why the team moved on to the Naked Gun movies, I understand, or they would have continued with TV (which I thought was much better...)

Yes, Police Squad was hilarious!  They showed them over here on repeat a while back.  We are also overlooking his part in "Due South".  This guy had so much talent.  I had no idea he was that old either, he always looked the same age, like Sid James did!

White hair can be deceiving... and here's another actor I knew well but just can't remember as a young man, while certainly having seen him a thousand times in many popular TV series, for instance, at least as a guest, in Rawhide, Alfred Hitchcock presents, Wild Wild West, Dr. Kildare, Bonanza, Disneyland, The Man from UNCLE, MASH, The Streets of San Francisco, Hawaii Five-O, Ironside, Kojak, Kung Fu, please stop me, it goes on forever...
