i've been listening to the radio shows, a great laugh. I absolutely love the episode where Tony, Sid and Bill have to walk home after missing the last bus after going to the cinema.
Whats your favourate episode?

Rogue,
The Episode you mention is "The last bus home"."Til death us do part" star Warren Mitchell plays the bus driver. My favourite episode by a mile is "Sunday afternoon at home" this was Galton & Simpson at their
best writing for Hancock, this episode has the great line-up-Hancock,Sid James,Hattie,Bill Kerr and of course Kenneth Williams.A comedy classic in my opinion!

"Wild man of the woods" is another favourite episode.

Was Sunday Afternoon At Home the one where Hancock is bored and clock-watching?
I don't think i know the Wild Man Of The Woods, what happens in that one?

Unfortunatly, my Hancock audios came from Demoniod, they are unlabled and the quality isnt that great on some of them

The "Sunday afternoon" episode is indeed the one where Hancock,Sid,Hattie & Bill all sit clock watching, they all suggest various ideas to relieve the boredom-Monopoly 'We can't we've lost the board',play the piano 'the lids down and we've lost the key' etc.Hancock even starts to see faces in the wallpaper.

"Wild man of the woods" is the one where Hancock goes back to nature (Clapham common),ends up in Hospital Sid then sorts him out with woods to live in, failing to tell him he will be visited by members of the Public.Kenneth williams is brilliant in this one as "Jungle Jim".

There's always been something about Hancock I just dont get.  The scripts are hilarious, but I find his performance too "American" in places, which was right for the times.  I personally dont rate him that highly as a performer, which I know will be controversial.  I am not saying he was a bad perormer, his popularity proves that he is not, I just get a little irritated by him... not totally sure why.

Ah, Phil, that makes me feel a bit better about not liking Steptoe & Son much, I don't feel so guilty about it anymore... Wink

Joking apart, we all probably have some "blind spots" where personal taste prevents us from enjoying something that's universally liked by either the critics or the public, sometimes both... not very often, though, the critics and the public usually seem to come from different planets... Wink

Personally, I adore Tony Hancock, my only criticism is that, to me, he wasn't as good on his own as he had been with Sid James and the rest of the gang from the early days on the radio, but on the other hand it's in those "solo" episodes from the early 60s that you can tell how good a performer he was.

As usual, it takes all sorts and all that... Smiley

Every man to his own.. what a boring world it would be if we all liked the same thing.

I want to love Hancock the way everyone else does, I just don't get it.   I do not doubt his ability as a performer, he was obviously a good performer to be so loved, but I can personally take it or leave it.
